Anabezi is named for the Zambezi River on which it sits and the “Ana” or Winterthorn tree forest that surrounds it
The camp is built on an elevated boardwalk which connects each luxury tented suite to two main areas with their own respective swimming pools. The elevated boardwalk allows for wildlife to roam freely throughout camp while minimizing effects on the ecosystem. It also means guests can walk around safely during the day without an escort. Elephants, buffalo, antelope - and even the occasional lion or leopard - often pass through camp, allowing you to experience wildlife from the comfort of your room. These communal areas evoke a classic African style with a modern touch, providing guests the opportunity to experience Lower Zambezi and its wilderness while relaxing at camp. As the sun sets and nightlife of the bush comes to life, we invite guests to sit by the camp fire with a sundowner and share stories of their sightings with fellow visitors.
Zambezi Deck
ZAMBEZI DECK IS THE HEART OF ANABEZI, HOSTING THE MAIN DINING AREA, HIGH TEA AND SERVING AS THE MEETING POINT FOR ALL ACTIVITIES
As its namesake implies, the Zambezi Deck provides sweeping views of the Zambezi River and the floodplain, with daily visits from elephants, buffalo, impala, waterbuck, warthogs and a variety of birds. Watch the wildlife from the swimming pool, while you’re having lunch or from one of the many lounging areas and take in the surrounding landscape. It’s not uncommon to get up close views of elephants drinking, bathing and crossing the Zambezi River to one of its many islands.
Mushika Deck
MUSHIKA DECK LIES AT THE FAR END OF THE BOARDWALK, OFFERING A SECLUDED AND QUIET SPOT TO REST AND RELAX
Home to Anabezi’s second swimming pool, the Mushika Deck offers a full bar and sweeping views of the Mushika River floodplain. A nearby watering hole attracts wildlife like resident elephants and buffalos, warthogs bathing in the mud, antelope and the Anabezi Troop of Baboons, making it an ideal spot for wildlife viewing.
Our location
Anabezi is situated on the banks of the Zambezi River on the Eastern End of Lower Zambezi National Park in the heart of the iconic Winterthorn Forest. With a sparse number of camps on this end of the park, sightings are often exclusive with few to no other vehicles, allowing for minimum impact on the wildlife and a more private guest experience.
The area boasts a high density of leopard for its size, and is sometimes referred to as the Sabi Sands of Zambia
Large populations of elephants and buffalo roam the forest and the banks of the Zambezi along with our resident pride of lions. Our resident pack of painted dogs move up and down the length of the park, with Chakwenga being one of their designated hunting grounds. When they are in the area, this pack provides truly exceptional sightings!
Travel information
IMMIGRATION
Passports are required by all foreign visitors and must be valid for 6 months after the intended length of stay. Please ensure that you have at least 2 consecutive blank visa pages (not endorsement pages) in your passport. As of November 2022, Zambia has waived all visa requirements for the following countries: United Kingdom, United States of America, European Union, Australia, Canada, Japan, Norway, China, South Korea, and Gulf Estates.
Eligible foreign nationals can stay in Zambia under the visa waiver for up to 30 days and may extend their stay for up to 90 days. When in doubt, check your visa requirements from your nearest embassy or consulate. THE CLIMATE
Zambia is a predominantly subtropical climate, with three distinct seasons: hot and dry season from from mid-August to mid-November, rainy season from mid-November to April, and cool and dry season from May to mid-August. Because it sits in a valley at the southern point of Zambia, Lower Zambezi typically experiences warmer temperatures than nearby Lusaka. Expect for days to be from mild to hot, however early mornings and evenings can be chilly - especially on a game drive vehicle.
INTERNATIONAL ARRIVALS
Anabezi is a convenient 40 minute flight from Zambia’s capital city, Lusaka. The international terminal has daily flights to and from several major hubs such as Johannesburg, Dubai, Doha, Nairobi, and Addis Ababa and is served by many major air carriers including Emirates, Ethiopian Airways, Kenya Airways, South African Airways, and British Airways and Air France via Airlink.
DOMESTIC ARRIVALS
Three daily scheduled flights on Proflight from Lusaka’s domestic terminal arrive at Jeki Airstrip, which is a 40-minute drive from camp and can be extended into a full 2-hour safari for guests who want to dive right into the experience.
Proflight also offers 3 weekly flights from Jeki to Mfuwe for easy access to and from South Luangwa National Park. Chartered flights arrive at Kulefu Airstrip, a short 10-minute drive from camp. Please contact us for information on charter flights.
We can also organize boat transfers or pickups to or from another camp within Lower Zambezi if needed.
